I have a customer who likes the neck on his Taylor 814. I see that it has a 1-3/4" nut, but the Taylor web site does not give the 12th fret width or string spacing. Can someone help me out with those?

Howard,
I'm currently in the process of developing a new jig that will allow you to recreate necks of famous guitars. It will contain 11 pieces of information, including:
1. Nut Width
2. Scale Length
3. Model of guitar and year
4. Width of fingerboard at last fret
5. Width of Fingerboard at the nut
6. Contour of neck at 1st fret
7. Contour of neck at 10th fret
8. Radius of fingerboard at the nut
9. Radius of fingerboard at the last fret
10. Depth of the neck at 1st & 10th fret (including fretboard)
11. String spacing at bridge and nut

So far we have a 1997 Taylor Jumbo Cutaway and a 2006 Grand Taylor Concert, and a 1996 Taylor 12 String Model 655. We also have 47 other necks documented, including archtops, classicals, electrics, uke's, mandolins(including an original Loyd Loar). Eventually, we plan to have about 100 different necks to choose from. Maybe one of those will work for you. But you'll have to wait at least 2 more weeks, maybe 3 before you can get it. Sorry about the tease.

Tracy, that sounds really cool! Any idea yet how much you are going to sell this one for? Sounds like something I'm gonna need.

Howard, obvious question I know, but here goes anyway. Why don't you ask the customer to measure his?

Dave,
It should go for around $20, with discounts for ordering more. Final price is not 100% known at this time as we are still running prototypes. Thanks!

Thanks Tracy, I'll be watching for your announcement when it is ready to sell. I assume you'll let everyone here on the OLF know when it is available?

Now there's a jig that is potentially worth it's weight in gold....

My 612 measures 1.76" at the nut, and 2.16" at the 12th fret. Thickness over the strings and fret 1= 0.910", and 9th= 0.965". I hope this helps. I can make some castings if You like.

Thanks Al. Can you measure the center to center of the E strings at the bridge? I may have been unclear about what I meant by string spacing.

Tracy, I'm sure you are making a wonderful jig, but I asked for two numbers, and you used my thread to advertise your jig. Notice that most of this thread is now about Tracy's new jig; only Al gave an answer to my question.Howard Klepper39010.888287037

Howard,
Sorry about that. I really didn't mean to hijack this thread. I was hoping that if someone didn't come up with what you needed, maybe one of the other Taylor necks would work. But at least you would know that it was coming. My sincerest apologies
Tracy
